Chat GPT style tech brought to Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365, the popular suite of work software that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, is getting a major upgrade with the addition of Copilot, an artificial intelligence (AI) feature based on the technology behind ChatGPT.

ChatGPT is one of the most advanced AI systems in the world, capable of generating human-like responses to any kind of text input. It uses a deep learning model that has been trained on billions of words from various sources on the internet. ChatGPT can answer questions, write essays, compose emails and even create jokes and stories.

Microsoft has partnered with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, to bring some of its capabilities to Microsoft 365 users. Copilot will be a new feature that will help users with various tasks such as summarizing meetings, creating presentations, drafting emails and analyzing data. Copilot will also provide suggestions and feedback based on the context and content of the user's work.

According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Copilot is "the next major step in the evolution" of Microsoft 365 and will "fundamentally change the way we work". He said that Copilot will enable users to focus on their most important work and reduce their busy work by automating some of their tasks.

However, Microsoft also admitted that Copilot will not be perfect and may sometimes make mistakes or produce inaccurate or misleading information. This is because ChatGPT itself is not always reliable or factual and may sometimes generate false or nonsensical responses. Microsoft said that Copilot will be "usefully wrong" at times and that users should always check its output before using it.

Microsoft has not yet announced when Copilot will be available for Microsoft 365 users or how much it will cost. The company said it will reveal more details soon.

Copilot is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to invest in AI and leverage its potential for its products and services. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI and has exclusive access to its latest AI model GPT4 which was launched on Tuesday. GPT4 is an improved version of ChatGPT with more advanced reasoning skills but also more risks of sharing disinformation.

Microsoft is not alone in developing AI chatbots based on ChatGPT technology. Google has launched its own rival called Bard which can write long-form texts such as articles and books. Meta has its own chatbot named Blenderbot which can have engaging conversations with humans on various topics. And in China, Baidu has released a more advanced version of its chatbot Ernie which can understand complex queries and generate natural language responses.
